One day I'm gonna look at this again and hate how static it is! For now I'll simply be happy for it to be complete: those candies and sweets took forever to shade, but in retrospect I was partly expecting such a scene wouldn't have taken a few days to complete. It wasn't even a drawing with Candy, to begin with: I had planned a scene with Greg instead (in another setting, of course: he's a casino dweller) but as much as I tried, I couldn't come up with a decent background layout. I didn't want to half-ass it, and saved that idea for a future digital illustration while I whipped out something with Candy instead, as she's become fairly popular among watchers.
Months ago I was tidying up my reference pictures and found a series of photos of this pastel-themed, "50s vibes" kitchen (whose original post is now lost in Tumblr) and it was EXACTLY the style I had imagined Candy's workplace, the Sweet Curl, would be. The Sweet Curl has been depicted before is something like 2011, but at the time it looked pretty standard as I was still too stubborn to appropriately use any reference material. While at it, I also took the occasion to update Candy's work outfit as the one she had before was too er, plain? Or simply not thoroughly thought out, design-wise. I kept the old shop logo, however, as I still find it pretty clever. xP
I imagine she's probably taking a photoshoot to advertise the cafeteria, and that's why it's not so busy at the moment. Maybe she has asked Gloria to take the pics, since she does potrait photoes in her free time. xD
Again, I hope the colours aren't way too flashy (even for Candys standards!) as once more I'm using the studio screen instead of the one I have at home and admittedly, it's not that great... I had fiddled with its luminosity options before but I've found out that most bright colours are shown as pure white; it's like it doesn't have enough "colour depht", I don't know how to explain it.
