Trying out some methods for producing colour shifted stars efficiently. If you are in the business of going way too fast, redshift is a natural part of your working environment.
Still, I am not certain if this is even remotely naturally depicted.

The craft depicted is a photographic exploration vessel - a "brainship" operated by surgically integrated crew. The craft is propelled by a Bussard nuclear ramjet with a single magnetic funnel, channeling interstellar medium into a spinal mounted isotope diffuser feeding the rear-mounted reactor. Non-fusile materials are expelled from a ring of nozzles aft of the payload module, giving the craft a distorted halo when viewed along its axis.
At this stage of the journey the craft is at peak velocity and the engine is actually turned off. The glow from the nozzle is entirely due to residual heat: When travelling at interstellar cruise speed all instruments are retracted into the hull to reduce frontal area as much as possible, leaving only fixed radiators to cool critical components in time for the deceleration burn.

The concept originally started out as a chemical sounding rocket, but I got carried away. Nevertheless, do feel a nod of recognition to aerroscape is in order for precipitating its development.
