My entry for A Game of Genres 2018, Week 1 for Crime Noir.

I consider myself a novelist, not a short story writer, so this was extremely difficult to write. You can probably already tell that there's a scene that happens after this. In my outline there are five scenes but these two were all I could manage to fit with a measly 1,500 words. I might revisit this story in the future and extend it. Composing a story that can stand alone in just 1,500 words takes skill, one I clearly haven't developed yet, so I applaud my fellow participants in this contest for being able to pull it off. But I'll never get better at it if I don't practice, right? I think the last "short" story I wrote was Mercy, and it was like 12,000 words.

Another note that might interest you. For a while, I considered titling this story "Muñeca" because my main character is Latina, but I decided against it because her race isn't really that prevalent in the story. At least in this version. The original/current title was inspired by the band Murderdolls, simply cuz I couldn't think of anything better. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7d44j…
